AI Personal Stylist App

Drawing upon user insights, interviews, and comprehensive market research, I spearheaded the development of an AI virtual stylist app aimed at revolutionizing the fashion industry's approach to personalized styling. The app leverages cutting-edge artificial intelligence algorithms to deliver tailored fashion recommendations and styling guidance, elevating the user experience to new heights.

The idea for the stylist product came from seeing the struggles my friends and I had in crafting stylish and captivating outfits. We wanted something easy and affordable since we're not professional stylists and didn't have the time or money for fashion consultations.

Originally, I thought about creating a platform to connect stylists with clients, but that didn't fully solve the problem. After talking to users and studying existing products, I realized integrating AI could be the solution.

Core App Features

Elevate your style effortlessly by uploading photos of your clothes and accessories to curate your virtual wardrobe. Receive personalized recommendations on various outfit combinations, tailored just for you.

Define your budget and unlock a tailored style guide for any occasion, complete with direct links to purchase the recommended items. Elevate your wardrobe effortlessly while staying within your financial boundaries.

Ensure perfection with every ensemble by snapping a picture of your outfit and receiving instant feedback from our AI before stepping out the door.

Ask AI your basic fashion question, or get connected (for a fee) with a human professional stylist for an online consultation.

  • Harness user preferences and expectations within the realm of fashion and styling apps.

  • Assess the usability landscape of existing AI-driven fashion platforms.

  • Pinpoint pain points and opportunities for enhancement within the market.

  • Delve into user attitudes towards AI-powered fashion recommendations.

  • Formulate strategic recommendations to optimize the app's user journey and engagement.

Research Objectives

Research Outcomes

User Surveys

Crafted online surveys to gain demographic insights, usage behaviors, and nuanced preferences within the fashion tech space. Below are some of the insignts.

67.7% of the focus group (34 people) expressed challenges in seamlessly combining outfits and mastering their personal style.

73.5% find shopping time consuming.

76.5% of respondents highlighted financial constraints as a significant barrier to achieving their desired fashion expression.

The respondents are not big spenders on clothes. This survey question also helps us decide on subscription pricing and find clothing stores to partner with.

User Interviews

Conducted in-depth interviews with 4 individuals from diverse backgrounds to develop a target user persona. I firmly believe that when creating an MVP for a product, prioritizing one user type allows for a more tailored design that addresses their specific needs. Empathy maps serve as essential tools for organizing information effectively.

I chose to target young women aged 25-30 who possess a moderate interest in fashion but prioritize dressing fashionably. These individuals lead busy professional lives and lack time for self-education on fashion matters. With many events ranging from professional gatherings to weddings and parties, they frequently find themselves in need of stylish attire. Despite their solid income, their financial resources are somewhat constrained by their age and level of work experience.

User Stories

Based on my research, I wrote several user stories to address the needs:

  • As a busy professional, I want the app to suggest versatile outfits suitable for various occasions, such as work meetings, casual outings, and special events, to streamline my morning routine and reduce decision fatigue.

  • As a user attending a special event, I want the app to offer outfit coordination suggestions, including clothing, accessories, and footwear, to ensure I look fashionable and put-together.

  • As a budget-conscious shopper, I want the app to recommend affordable clothing options and alert me to sales or discounts from my favorite brands, helping me stay stylish without breaking the bank.

  • As a user looking to experiment with my style, I want the app to provide creative outfit ideas and suggest new trends or styles that align with my fashion preferences, allowing me to explore different looks confidently.

  • As a traveler, I want the app to curate packing lists and suggest versatile clothing options suitable for various destinations and climates, making packing for trips more efficient and stress-free.

  • As a user seeking fashion advice, I want the app to offer styling tips and insights on color coordination, layering, and accessorizing, empowering me to elevate my style.

Architecture

But naturally, it all starts like this:

Design

Below are design mockups showcasing the intuitive and visually engaging interface of the AI-powered fashion stylist app.

The choice to use purple as the primary color for the app interface stems from careful consideration of both aesthetics and psychology. Purple is often associated with creativity, luxury, and sophistication, making it an ideal choice for a fashion-related application that aims to inspire and empower users to express themselves through style. In addition, purple carries connotations of royalty and elegance, giving a sense of exclusivity that aligns with the app's positioning as a cutting-edge fashion tool.
